Pawpaw Seeds
A pack of pawpaw seed gathered from our favorite grove from a hollow in the Blue Ridge. The trees there bear abundantly every year with large-sized, good tasting fruit. No acrid flavor, just the sweet taste of perfect pawpaw!
Pawpaws are shapely understory trees that are as delicious to zebra swallowtail butterflies and pawpaw sphinx months as they are to us. Mature trees are not at all tasty to deer, though the fawns may brows on seedlings.
Pawpaws require shade and ample water when young sprouts, but can be planted in the open once they are 2+ years old. They require no pruning or spraying to keep healthy and productive.
Seeds ship pre-stratified and ready to plant as soon as they arrive. Germination can take up to 1 year, though usually sooner. Sow in dappled shade and keep well watered. Pawpaws have a deep taproot that grows much faster than the above-ground part, so if growing in a container, plant into a tall one and pot up often! Trees bear fruit 6-9 years from seed germination.
